Dry Soil Removal
Vacuum, Vacuum, Vacuum!
1. Your vacuum is your carpet's and area rug's best friend. Use it often vacuuming in different directions.
2. We recommend a high-quality upright vacuum with a rotating agitator bar.
3. Vacuum traffic areas daily, if possible—especially in an active home with children and pets.
4. Change or empty the vacuum bag frequently.
Spills and Stain Removal
Act quickly when a spill occurs. Pick up solids, and then blot up (never rub) as much as possible with a dry, absorbent, white towel.
Types of Spills and Stains
1. Water Soluble - includes many household foods and beverages, as well as body excrements, vomit, and urine (human or pet).
A quick and easy solution for cleaning spills and stains is to mix 1 teaspoon liquid dishwashing detergent with a pint of warm water. Apply this mixture to the stain, working from the outer edge to the center using a spoon or other similar utensil. Sponge or absorb this mixture off the carpet, and then rinse and blot with cold water mixed with 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. Finally, place a dry white towel over the area and weight down with a heavy object. This works best if left overnight. We also have specialty products available for purchase. 2. Solvent Soluble - includes engine oil or grease, tar, gum, lipstick, crayons, and nail polish, just to name a few.
These types of spills require special products generally available at local stores. Some brand names are Carbona, Energine, and K2R. We use a commercial product called Saf-T-Solv. Never pour directly onto carpet. Pour a small amount on a white towel or cloth, and then blot the spot with the towel. Repeat as necessary to fully remove spot, but never allow the carpet to get overly wet. Once the spot is fully removed, rinse area with the detergent solution described above.
